Disability Rights Legislative Day will be held on Wednesday,
March 29,
2006. Come join people with
disabilities from all over
the state of Missouri in their efforts to affect
the outcome of
various bills
being considered by the legislature. Registration
will be on the south lawn
from 11:30 AM to
12:30 PM. There will
be a march around the Capitol from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM,
followed by a rally on
the south lawn (in the rotunda in case
of rain) from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
The day will end with people
visiting various legislators and advocating for their desired
legislation
from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. We
hope to see many
deaf and hard of hearing persons attend the Disability
Rights
Legislative Day as
there are two bills in the legislature this
year that particularly concern
persons with hearing loss,
namely, HB 1036 (which would require captioning of all
electronic
educational materials marketed to
schools) and
HB 1825 (which would require real-time captioning of all local
news, weather and sports
broadcasts by all TV stations in
Missouri).
