MCDHH is pleased to
announce that we are starting a new
mentorship program to help Missouri
interpreters improve their skills,
with the goal of increasing the number of
qualified interpreters available
in Missouri.
Mentors in the MICS
program will hold an MICS Comprehensive
level certification and a valid
Missouri Interpreters License or an RID
CDI and a valid Missouri
Interpreters License. They will also be
trained by MCDHH to ensure that the
mentoring is consistent
throughout the state.
Mentoring will be done in
groups of 3 or 4 for a cycle of 20 contact
hours. Each participant in the
group will be working on the same
goals (a maximum of 2 goals/cycle).
Mentors and students will earn
2.0 CEUs per cycle (for the students they
will earn the CEUs only
if they are working on new goals). The cost for each
student will be
$65.00 per cycle. Students may apply for, and participate
in, as
many cycles as they would like.
There will be Deaf mentors
available throughout the state to help
mentor students on their ASL
production skills in conjunction with
the interpreting mentor. The
interpreting mentors, Deaf mentors,
and students will work out their
schedules.
