3, 2002 (Governor Holden Signs Bills - HB 1783 and HB 1715)
|
Governor
Holden signed House Bill 1783 and House Bill 1715 during a signing
ceremony this afternoon. HB 1783 does basically four things. In
particular, it (1) changes the name of the Missouri Commission for
the Deaf to the Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing, (2) allows the Commission to pay its MICS evaluators, (3)
creates an administrative fund for the Commission that will allow it
to receive gifts, contributions, grants and bequests as well as to
enter into contracts with public and private entities for its
services, and (4) mandates the recognition of certain RID and NAD
certifications. HB 1715 mandates the provision of interpreters to
juveniles who are deaf or the family members of juveniles who are
deaf in juvenile detention and correction proceedings and
facilities.
The Missouri Commission for the Deaf is proud of the role it played
in the development and passage of these bills, and it wishes to
thank Representatives Moore, Lowe and Graham, as well as Senators
Sims and Rohrbach, for their efforts in getting these bills through
the legislature. These new laws will become effective on August 28th.
