HB 1731
requires health insurance entities in Missouri to provide coverage
for hearing examinations and hearing aids for children under the age
of 18, and for people who have a documented hearing disability
before they turn age 18. To qualify, the hearing loss must be more
than 30 decibels in the speech frequencies. The coverage may be
limited so as to reimburse expenses once every 36 months.
Reimbursement may be limited to 80% of the actual cost, and shall be
limited to no more than once every three years. HB 1731 is
co-sponsored by representatives Roy Holand and Joan Barry.
HB 1731 will have a public hearing before the House Insurance
Committee on Tuesday, 3/12/02, starting at 6:00 p.m. in House
Hearing Room # 5 in the Capitol Building in Jefferson City. The
Missouri Commission for the Deaf will testify in support of this
bill. Advocates who wish to see this bill passed can show their
support by testifying at the committee hearing and/or contacting the
members of the committee and asking them to support the bill.
