Posted March 18, 2002 (HB 1783 Update Report)
This week has seen a little movement of a few bills that the Missouri Commission for the Deaf (MCD) is supporting. But the legislature has been so preoccupied with budget issues that this has reduced the time and energy they have been able to give to other legislative issues.

This bill would change the name of the Missouri Commission for the Deaf to the Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This bill was introduced at the request of MCD, and the executive director of MCD testified in support of this bill at its public hearing on 2/19/02. HB 1783 was reported out of the House Education - Elementary and Secondary Committee on 2/27/02 by consent. It was perfected by consent, and has been placed on the Calendar of House Bills for Third Reading - Consent. Advocates who wish to see this bill become law should contact their local representative and urge him or her to vote for HB 1783 when it comes before the House for third reading.
