The Missouri
Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has just learned that HS
HCS HB 564 will have a public hearing before the Senate Committee on
Financial and Government Organization, Veteran's Affairs and
Elections in the Senate Lounge at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28th.
This is the bill that if enacted into law would basically (1) create
a new "provisional public school certificate" for educational
interpreters, (2) require the BCI to issued such a certificate to
any person nominated by a local school district who the district
feels could perform the duties of an interpreter in their school,
and (3) provide the holders of such a certificate an exemption to
the certification and licensure laws. All advocates who do not wish
to see the "provisional public school certificate" parts of HS HCS
HB 564 become law should come to Jefferson City on Monday and
testify against that part of the bill. If you can't come to testify,
then you should immediately contact (fax, e-mail and/or call) one or
all of the senators on that committee and ask that they delete the
language from HS HCS HB 564 that would create a "provisional public
school certificate." The members of that committee and their contact
information are as follows: |
