Educational Interpreters [HB 564]

While being Perfected an amendment was added to House Bill 564 by Representative Holand from Springfield that would have created a "Provisional Public School Certificate" for educational interpreters who were simply nominated by their local school district. That bill passed the House, but when it was considered in the Senate by the Financial and Governmental Organization, Veteran's Affairs and Elections Committee that amendment was deleted. The bill was then voted "Do Pass" by that committee, but the chair of the committee (Senator Yeckel) indicated that she would put the amendment back on the bill when it came up for Third Reading. The bill was first placed on the formal calendar of House Bills for Third Reading, but was later moved to the Senate informal calendar of House Bills for Third Reading, where it died on the last day of the legislative session. MCDHH wishes to thank everyone who contacted their senator and expressed support for our opposition to the language of the Holand amendment.
