HB 816 - ASL Bill Needs A Public Hearing 

The House bill (HB 816) that would require schools to treat American Sign Language as a "foreign language" for credit granting purposes, allow students to proficiency ASL, and allow ASL to be used for meeting admission and graduation requirements was referred to the House Education Committee on
1/29/04. Those advocates who are interested in moving this bill should contact Representative Jane Cunningham, who is the chair of the House Education Committee, and request that HB 816 be scheduled for a public hearing. Contact information for Representative Cunningham is as follows:
