Representative Danie Moore, Republican from Fulton
(20th District), has again sponsored a bill (HB 936) that if passed
would require all health insurance carriers to provide coverage for
hearing aids for dependent children up to 19 years of age. The bill
would require insurance companies to provide coverage for
replacement hearing aids at least once every three years, and would
ensure that the benefit was not capped at less than $1,250 per
hearing aid for each ear with a hearing loss. HB 936 was prefiled on
12/30/03, had a first reading on 1/7/04 and a second reading on
1/8/04. The bill has not yet been assigned to any committee. This
bill is one of the legislative priorities for MCDHH in 2004, and we
will be doing all we can to try and get some version of the bill
passed into law. There is a companion bill in the Senate (SB 705)
that was sponsored by Senator Harold Caskey from Butler (District
31). That bill has been referred to the Senate's "Small Business,
Insurance and Industrial Relations Committee" but has not yet been
scheduled for a committee hearing. |
