HB 472 (Captioning of Educational Media) Referred to Committee

HB 472 was referred to the House Elementary & Secondary Education Committee on 2/17/05. The chair of that committee is Representative Jane Cunningham from Chesterfield (86th District). HB 472 would require manufacturers and distributors of all educational media with spoken content designed or marketed for students in grades K-12 to provide open or closed captions on all such media beginning 1/1/06. This would include media such as videotape, CD, DVD, film, teleconference, and television.

Supporters of this bill should send a brief e-mail, letter or fax to Representative Cunningham that does the following:

(1) Indicates that you support the bill,
(2) Gives your reason for supporting the bill,
(3) Requests that Rep. Cunningham schedule a public hearing for HB 472 with her committee as soon as possible, and
(4) Requests that Representative Cunningham support the bill.

Copies of your e-mail, letter or fax should also be sent to all other members of the House Elementary and Secondary Education Committee, as well as to MCDHH. Contact information for all members of the committee is as follows:
