HB 472 (Captioning of Instructional Materials) is Introduced |
At the request of the Missouri Commission for the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Representative Therese Sander of Moberly
introduced HB 472 yesterday, and it had a second reading today. HB
472 would require that all electronic video instructional materials
designed for pupils in kindergarten through grade 12 offered for
sale or adoption in Missouri beginning 1/1/06 shall have either open
or closed captions. Such materials would include but not be limited
to videotape, CD ROM, digital video disc (DVD), television, computer
programs, film, teleconferences, and material distributed over the
Internet. This bill has not yet been assigned to a committee.
To help MCDHH prepare for a public hearing on this bill, if and when
one is held, I would greatly appreciate receiving e-mail, faxes,
and/or letters from people who support this bill indicating that
they would like to see it passed. At this time it also would be
appropriate for people to send an e-mail to Representative Sander
thanking her for introducing the bill (therese.sander@house.mo.gov).
