HB 530 (ASL Bill) Advances |
| HB 530 had a
public hearing before the Senate Education Committee on this
Tuesday and was unanimously voted "Do Pass" in an executive
session immediately following the hearing. HB 530 would
require that all public schools in Missouri treat American
Sign Language as a "foreign language" for credit granting
and receiving purposes, and for meeting admission and
graduation requirements in public colleges and universities
in Missouri. HB 530 has already passed the House by an
overwhelming vote of 151 to 2, and it is now on the Senate
Calendar of House Bills on 3rd Reading. The fate of HB
530 is now in the hands of the full Senate, and proponents
of the bill should e-mail, fax, or call their local senators
and ask them to VOTE FOR HB 530 WHEN IT COMES TO THE SENATE
FLOOR FOR A VOTE. We are just one step away from getting
the ASL bill through the legislature this year, so let's do
whatever we can to see it pass this final hurdle. |
