HB 1825
(Real-Time Captioning of Local
News) Read for the
first and second time
At
the request of the Missouri Commission for the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing,
Representative
Gary Dusenberg from Blue
Springs introduced HB 1825. If enacted into law, HB
1825
would
require that beginning January 1, 2006 all television
stations in Missouri with
gross revenues
over $3,000,000 a
year would have to provide real-time captions for all of their
local news,
weather and sports broadcasts. Use of the
“electronic newsroom” technology
would not satisfy
the
captioning requirement. HB 1825 had a first reading on
2/20/06 and was read
a second
time on 2/21/06. As of yet
the bill has not been referred to a committee.
