HB
181, sponsored by Representative Therese Sander of
Moberly, had a public hearing before the House
Higher Education Committee yesterday in House
Hearing Room # 3 of the Capitol Building. At that
hearing five people testified in support of the
bill, and nobody testified opposed to the bill. The
five witnesses who supported the bill were Dr. Roy
Miller, Executive Director of the Missouri
Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MCDHH),
Kim Davis, Workshop/Training Specialist at MCDHH,
Larry Hoard, a social worker from Hannibal, Jim
Tusher from Paraquad, and
Shelby Butler from
the Southwest Center for Independent Living. At the
hearing Dr. Miller distributed copies of nearly 150
e-mails that he had received in support of a bill
requiring captioning of electronic video
instructional materials. We will keep you informed
regarding the progress of HB 181.
