HCS HB181 (Captioning of
Instructional
Materials) is
perfected by the House
Good news! HCS HB 181 was discussed on
the floor of the
House yesterday. At the request of MCDHH, Representative
Therese Sander of Moberly offered an amendment that would
put back in the bill enforcement language that had been deleted
by the House Higher Education Committee. The amendment
was accepted and HCS HB 181 as amended was perfected
and ordered printed. So now the only difference between
HCS HB 181 as perfected and the original HB 181 is that
manufacturers of non-captioned educational videos would be
liable for only three times the cost of adding captions rather
than ten times the cost, a minor difference that does not affect
the substance of the bill. We will keep you posted regarding
the progress of this bill.
